I have been trying to make my digital inking dreams come true since I bought my first convertible Fujitsu lifebook laptop/tablet in 2002. This device is the first one to make me feel like I could have all the things I wanted(great performance, excellent input response, excellent screen, and recently Android OS). It is a near perfect device for me. It has a gorgeous screen(though not OLED) which has a high refresh rate and is super responsive to both touch and pen input. It’s not technically the lowest inking latency available but it’s so good and responsive that I can’t really notice a difference (say between this and an iPad pro) unless I look real hard. I prefer the Android OS though obviously iPads are fantastic products as well so I feel like I have to compare the two a little. The UI performance is on par with or better than iPad(every bit as smooth and sometimes slightly faster). App performance is awesome though I don’t encode video or do many things for which an iPad would likely have a computational advantage. Battery life is plenty good enough for me, but not as good as an iPad would be. Game controller latency seems low with my preferred controller same as an iPad. iPad comparison over. I like Dex and it really shines for me when I am playing around in Godot4 game creation tool/IDE. This is the first tablet device which I want to use every day for work and for fun. I can take notes at work, read books and comics, watch tv/movies and play games and mess around with making games and everything works smoothly. Multitasking works very well and it’s trivial open a web page or video and take notes at the same time.

I purchased the Samsung S8 tablet online and opted for store pick-up. The day of pick-up the staff was very attentive and polite and asked to see the e-mail with my pick-up information. I showed it and one of them walked off and was back 2 minutes later with it in hand. The only thing I didn’t like was a huge sticker on the tablet box with my information on it (see pic). I’m glad the purchase was for myself and not a gift because that wouldn’t have gone over well. Make sure you purchase a screen protector and case for your tablet. I picked the foldable case with the Bluetooth keyboard (see pic). I have now owned the tablet for 8 months and have never had any issues. Well there was a small issue when I noticed the cord that came with it was a USB Type-C on both ends. I bought a power block and it charges so much faster than the S7 that came with the block and USB to Type-C cord. It performs flawlessly and has never lagged. For reference, my kids have at least 20 games downloaded and I have photos, emails, countless saved documents (as my son does school from home), youtube, and about 12 video streaming apps and countless other apps and I haven’t come close to running out of storage or had to close apps running in the background. It’s faster, louder, and brighter then any other phone or tablet I’ve owned. My friends and family are amazed with it when they watch something on it. I think the S-pen is a nice bonus and I mess around with it from time to time. I really enjoy when I hook the keyboard to it and it works just like a desktop. I’m clumsy with a touchscreen so typing with the keyboard is so much faster (see pic). I also own the Samsung S7 tablet so I can compare them. My daughter uses the S7 daily (see pic). It’s perfect for her but I notice the S8 is faster, the S-pen works better, and the speakers sound better. I do want to say, we’ve never had an issue with the S7. If it weren’t for my daughter begging to have her own tablet I would’ve still been using the S7 and I was content with it. If you are wanting to purchase one of the ones I mentioned, definitely get the S8 because Samsung will not have any OS updates after this year for the S7. The S8 is supposed to receive OS updates until 2026. So that’s the biggest deal breaker along with the other things I’ve stated!!

My iPad Air 4 kept crashing on me after the warranty for it ran out. Out of frustation I decided to sell it and used the money for it towards buying this tablet, and I’m pretty satisfied by it so far! I’m an artist, so the S-Pen feels really satisfying to use when I use it to draw in Clip Studio Paint. I’ve only had it for about a month, so I am still getting used to the controls and optimizing it. But so far I’m pretty happy with my purchase. Hopefully I will not have the same issue after having this for a year! I’m never picking up an apple product ever again.
